Whether your a complete beginner looking for a new pastime, change of career or a professional painter looking to add an extra dimension to your existing skills, we have the perfect paint effects course for you.

We offer one and two day paint effects courses, that range from the very basics, were you will be taught about the different types of paint mediums available and how they interact with each other, preparing your working surface, applying base coats and top coats and the processes in between, right through to trying your hand at some basic special effects like colourwashing, ragging, sponging and creating the ever popular shabby chic look.

Our intermediate paint effects courses are for those that already know the basics and want to learn more. There will be a brief refresher on basic work preparation before focusing on more detailed effects like, stippling, verdigris, stenciling, colourwashing, ragging, sponging, textured stenciling and shabby chic.

The advanced paint effects courses cover more specialist finishes which include, marbling, tortoise shelling, antiquing, stone blocking, crackle glazing, crackle varnish and wood graining.

On all the paint effects courses you will learn how to mix the various paints and glazes that are used to create these finishes.

We offer a relaxed friendly atmosphere with plenty of tea and coffee on offer as you learn and have fun creating the above effects.

We also run paint effects night classes, where you can learn the same techniques as on the courses but in bite size 1.5 hour lessons.

You can if you wish bring along an old item of furniture and we will guide you step by step through the process of revamping the item, the item can be stored with us so you don't have to worry about transporting it back and forth.

You can also purchase any item from the Black Swan Furniture range in it's pre-finish condition and apply all the layers during your lessons. For example a Louis XV Two Drawer Tall Bedside pre-finish price of £119.
